Prospective Bayou Blend
We're On Our Way

Prospective Bayou Blend has been very busy learning music, attending regional weekends, planning performances and solving murders; Yes, solving murders!  We had a chorus retreat complete with a murder mystery, “Death by Chocolate.” The chorus retreat was held in beautiful Destin, Fla. It was a wonderful weekend of gorgeous scenery, great music, bonding and lots of chocolate. While at the retreat the chorus members were asked to submit mission statements to be considered for our chorus.  The mission statement below was chosen by the chorus and represents the mindset of the Bayou Blend Chorus:

"The vision of our chorus is to blend together our voices, talents and love of performing. Working together, Prospective Bayou Blend can enrich our community with exceptional barbershop music while fostering friendships to last a lifetime."

The calendar is already filling with Christmas performance dates. Prospective Bayou Blend is scheduled to sing at the Festival of Lights annual lighting of the Oil Center in Lafayette and Acadian Village.

After our recent regional visit from Vickie Dennis and Carin Williamson, we were told that we sailed through the Step Two process and could expect to receive our charter in time to compete in the spring. This news put us into overdrive so we are setting goals and working hard to achieve them.

Saratoga Soundtrack Chorus
Charters and Grows!

We are excited to announce that Prospective Saratoga Soundtrack received its charter effective Aug. 8, 2008 with 16 members! We had a wonderful charter party to celebrate consisting of dinner and performances by a quartet and a local Sweet Adelines Chorus. Of course, Saratoga Soundtrack also performed and later our guests joined us in a rendition of Can You Feel the Love Tonight.

By September, we began a four-week voice lesson program taught by our director, Nancy Faddegon. Each week we’ve had an average of 42 participants. More than 20 women have expressed interest in joining the chorus. It is sure to be a fun and exciting challenge to meld these new women into our chorus. Keep up the hard work prospective choruses. You can achieve your dreams.

Prospective Belles of Berkeley Chorus
Dueling Belles Close to Charter

Prospective Belles of Berkeley is very close to dropping the “Prospective” from its name. All paperwork has been sent to international and we are just waiting on one more musical visit from our region's education coordinator that is scheduled for December.

In the meantime, the chorus is busy preparing for its first stage show on Nov. 22. This year has passed quickly with all our preparations - sewing costumes, learning our lines and perfecting our music. Suddenly, the show date is here and we are busy attending to all the last minute details.

The first half of our show is a country/western theme: Dueling Belles, A Cowgirl Showdown. We have also invited a young lady, age 12, to sing her Irish Celtic songs with her beautiful, haunting voice. Also, director Brenda Rahn has been working with a group of eight high school girls using two songs from the Young Women in Harmony selections. The group will have a spot on the show during the first half. For the second half, we invited the CAROUSEL quartet from the men’s Mason-Dixon Chorus to sing on the show. Plus, our own quartet A TOUCH OF VELVET will be performing. Three Christmas sing outs are scheduled within the first two weeks following our show. We are taking two weeks off over the Christmas holidays but will be back in action at the beginning of January to prepare for a big Open House in hopes of attracting interested women singers to visit our chorus.

Prospective DaleDiva Chorus
Still Growing!

It’s been another busy few months for Prospective DaleDiva since we last reported. We’re still riding high on the success of being part of BBC Televisions “Last Choir Standing” event in August. Our appearance on the show’s web site generated a great deal of interest in the chorus, both in terms of attracting a growing army of loyal fans as well as many new members. We now have 58 members and have had to start a waiting list! Another event which boosted our chorus’ profile was our “Fame for a Day” workshop. It was a huge success with more than 40 women coming along to sing with us.

Most recently we hosted a charity concert in aid of Breast Cancer Care during Breast Cancer awareness week. It featured performances by Prospective DaleDiva and our amazing quartet FARENHEIT. It was a fantastic evening hosted in a beautiful church.

We’ve also started performing at weddings. Our first appearance at a church ceremony in September was a huge success and the bride and groom were delighted with how our music made their big day special. We now host a stand at a local wedding fair promoting our chorus and we now have more bookings to look forward to next year.
Meanwhile, we’re working as hard as ever on perfecting our ever-growing repertoire of music. Under the inspirational guidance of our musical director, Ally Law, our dedicated section leaders and music team are making sure we stay on track with ever increasing standards. Our hardworking board continues to put every effort into the business of managing the chorus, raising funds and looking for opportunities to develop in every way we can.

Our first anniversary is approaching in November and we’ve organized a special dinner to make sure we celebrate in style. What an amazing debut year Prospective DaleDiva has had. We look forward to an even better 2009.

Prospective Heart of Columbia Chorus
A Very Merry Birthday!

Sept. 25, 2008, was a night of celebration for the Prospective Heart of Columbia Chorus. It was our first birthday.  It hardly seems possible that a year has passed. Our members care for and encourage each other through life’s difficulties and challenges. How did a group of women that didn’t know each other a little more than a year ago become such a vibrant chorus?

To celebrate our birthday we had a party, complete with a beautiful reception prepared by our members. Our guests included Peggy James and members of Greenville in Harmony Chorus, Cindy Shook and Queen Charlotte chorus members, Tom Nawrocki and Southern Harmony chorus members, and the editor of Lake Murray Columbia Magazine, Kristine Hartvigsen. We took a walk down memory lane reviewing the many events of the past year. Whether our Television debut last spring or singing for the senior lunch bunch, it is all part of our history and we enjoyed pausing for a moment to reflect.

Then it was our turn to sing. Among the songs we performed was our song Heart of Columbia arranged by our assistant director, Virginia King. A highlight of the night was when our director, Tina Kneisler, introduced 12 new members from our recently completed vocal education classes. I am so grateful for our wonderful ladies in Columbia and for the support of Region 14.

It is now November and we are just one month away from submitting our paperwork for charter. Dec. 5 marks the goal date to mail our charter packet to International. It has been a fantastic 15 months and we are excited to soon be added to the list of chartered Sweet Adelines International Chapters. New costumes are on the way and performances are booked. We look forward to many wonderful years to come as the Heart of Columbia Chorus.

Prospective Westwind Harmony Chorus
Moving Fast!

Prospective Westwind Harmony held its first rehearsal on March 1, 2008, and is now in Step Two towards chartering. We have 19 dedicated members and seven prospective ladies working toward membership auditions. Sadly our founder, Donna O’Hora, passed away Aug. 21, 2008. But our goal to have 30 women on stage for evaluation at Regional Convention and Competition in Pasadena, Calif., in April 2009 remains. We are almost there and so excited about that.

Our open house was a terrific way to introduce our chorus to prospective new members. We were fortunate to have eight ladies interested this month in response to our ads and flyers. It was fun to meet new ladies and share the evening singing wonderful barbershop songs.

In addition to our chorus, we were honored to have the THE MIX quartet entertain the audience. The quartet members are also members of the International Champion Scottsdale Chorus competing in Hawaii this month. We know the inspiration of excellent vocal skills and tips they shared with us will help us at evaluation in Pasadena.

We were also participants in the Memory Walk for Alzheimer’s in October. Our commitment to community events remains strong. Friends and family night in November will be the showcase for all of our hard work.THE MIX will again thrill us with their new sound and outstanding harmony and a surprise guest will make the evening complete. Through ads in the newspaper, word-of-mouth and dedication, we intend to let the community know we are here to entertain.

We are planning a charter party when we can finally say we are a chartered Sweet Adelines International Chapter. This will certainly be the celebration we have looked forward to all year!

Young Women in Harmony Festival Chorus in Honolulu, Hawaii

Seventeen young women from across the globe assembled at the Hawaii Convention Center in Honolulu on Nov. 4, 2008, for a day of making friends, ringing chords and getting a crash course in the art of barbershop.  The young ladies ranged in age from 12 to 23 and more than half were members of Sweet Adelines, including the chorus’ section leaders and 2008 Rising Star Champions, WHOLE LOTTA HARMONY.
The day started bright and early with warm-ups and some ice-breakers led by the festival directors, Kim Wonders and Natalie Allen.  The local Hawaiian participants connected right away with the young Sweet Adelines who came to the convention from the U.S. mainland and New Zealand.

The chorus rehearsed its three songs: One Voice, Straighten Up And Fly Right and 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin’ Groovy) as a group and then in sections until everyone felt really good about locking the chords, singing the right words and feeling the rhythms just right.  After the short break for lunch, the ladies gathered on the risers to add in the choreography. It was amazing to see these young women go from “hi nice to meet you” to a cohesive, performance-ready, chorus in less than eight hours!  All of their hard work paid off when they took the International stage with their show package, dressed in brightly colored aloha shirts and khaki capris, as the opening act for the final International Showcase. The future of barbershop is in good hands.
Next year, the Sweet Adelines International Young Women in Harmony Festival moves to the Friday and Saturday preceding convention.  Our goal is to reach young performers and showcase their talents in a performance during the Harmony Classic contest that falls on the Tuesday of convention.  Stay tuned to our web site for more information on this exciting new festival format coming to Nashville next October.
