Announcing an International Young Women in Harmony Festival!
Sweet Adelines International will soon give Honolulu, Hawaii something to sing about as thousands of four-part harmony singers and guests from around the world bring their unique style of music to the Hawaii Convention Center for the 63rd annual convention and competition November 4-8, 2008.
As a special feature of the convention, we are offering a one-day festival on Tuesday, November 4, 2008, free of charge to 250 vocal students grades 7 through college age (up through age 25). Singers in the chorus can be your daughters, younger sisters, nieces, granddaughters or students. We are pleased to offer an outstanding opportunity to participate in an international barbershop chorus with rehearsals during the day, culminating in an evening performance on our popular Showcase show that evening.
Students who pre-register for the festival will receive music and a learning CD for the three songs that they will perform at Showcase. The music and learning CD will be sent out the first week of September to those who have pre-registered. Participants will also receive tickets to the evening Showcase performance. (Other convention registration and housing will be the expense and responsibility of the individual.) Songs are expected to be practiced before the festival, as the music will be performed memorized in the show that evening.
Festival clinicians will be Alice Linskey, Director of Education for Sweet Adelines International; Kim Wonders, director of Sweet Adelines International Champion Chorus Metro Nashville; and musical theater specialist Vickie Foltz (click here to view YWIH Festival Co-director biographical information). It will be a busy, fun-filled festival with much to accomplish. Click here to view a preliminary schedule for the festival. For more information and to register, download the YWIH Festival Registration Form.
Registration is open to junior high, high school and college age singers (age 25 and under) and will continue until the four voice parts are balanced or until September 15. Invitations are being sent to all area junior highs, high schools, colleges and universities in Hawaii. Applications to participate must be returned by September 15 and will be accepted in the order received until the risers are full.
We hope that you will encourage the young girls in your life to participate in this international festival.
