We are sorry to tell you the venue that we booked for IES Pacific Rim in New Zealand this November 11-13, the Sky City Convention Centre and Hotel in Auckland, has written to inform us that, “due to other challenges we cannot now proceed with your conference.” Naturally we were disappointed to learn that renovations, which we previously had been unaware of, would be underway and the facility could no longer accommodate us and a much larger event scheduled at the same time, which was called “a significant and long-term contributor of revenue to the convention centre.” The other facilities that staff inspected when they visited New Zealand last May could not accommodate our dates at this late date. After much discussion, the International Board of Directors voted to postpone IES Pacific Rim until November 2011. Staff will begin looking in both Region 34 and Region 35 for a site that can accommodate our event, which we hope can be reset for the end of the second week of November 2011. We apologize for the inconvenience. Richard Dodds, director of sales at Sky City, said that any deposits you may have already made for accommodations booked for the 2010 IES Pacific Rim will be refunded.
